Craniosacral therapy is a gentle hands-on therapy based on the principles of cranial osteopathy. It uses light touch and subtle movements to unwind holding patterns in the body and to release restrictions in the craniosacral system. Releasing those restrictions improves nervous system function, which can have a positive effect on all the tissues of the body. This subtle form of bodywork can help bring a deeper sense of balance to clients and allow the therapist to practice listening in a more profound and meaningful way. This course will cover basic history, relevant anatomy and physiology, technique, and a basic treatment protocol. Students will refine palpation skills for tuning into very subtle systems of the physical and energetic body. All of the techniques presented in this class can also be incorporated into other bodywork modalities.
Prerequisite(s): none!
Mondays & Wednesdays, September 14–November 9 • 6–10p • no class October 12

Acupressure is an ancient system of healing from China. It is a system that addresses the Qi or life-energy of the body, using specific points along the meridians to open and maintain the flow of energy and encourage physical, emotional, and mental balance. The objective of this basic 64-hour course is to give students hands-on experience feeling and working with Qi. Students will learn how the meridians and points can increase balance and how the combination of pressure techniques can help to alleviate common symptoms. The course will prepare students to incorporate Acupressure into their practice and to apply acupressure concepts to themselves for self-care.
Prerequisite(s): none!
Tuesdays & Thursdays, September 15 – December 15 • 6–10p • no class November 24 or 26
This basic 100-hour Swedish course involves techniques that consist of long muscle strokes on the skin, using lotion or oils. The work is done on a massage table. Numerous protocols for a full-body massage are covered, along with body usage and mechanics, contraindications, tailoring sessions, and many more techniques. In each class, you will observe the teacher demonstrate technique, practice on a partner, and then receive a massage from your partner. This process of seeing, doing, and experiencing allows you to learn each technique “inside and out.” The objective of this course is to teach the mechanics and techniques, as well as philosophy and spirit of massage, and to prepare you for a career in the field of massage.
Prerequisite(s): none!
Fridays, September 18 & 25 • 9a–1p —AND— Saturdays, September 19 & 26 • 9a–6p
Trauma can be described as a physiological and neurological imprint into the autonomic nervous system, and thus it manifests itself through bodily symptoms of anxiety, hypervigilance, agitation, and numbing. It leaves the person in a perpetual state of feeling less able to relax, less able to feel safe, or even able to feel much at all.
Trauma-informed massage can be very useful in helping a person relearn how to be in their body as a safe, calm, and peaceful place. In this 24-hour class, you will learn how to talk about trauma with a client, preform specific subtle touch techniques designed to “re-regulate” the autonomic nervous system (ANS), and learn methods of modifying your own style/modalities of massage to adjust to a client’s individual needs for safety, control, and healing.
Much of the work in this class is about the importance of therapeutic presence, attunement to the subtle shifts in a client’s ANS, and engaging clients in a more cooperative style of massage. So whether you work with clients with trauma, chronic anxiety, or even just daily stress, this class will give you the tools to refine who you are as a therapist and how you show up for clients, no matter what modalities you practice.
Prerequisite(s): at least 250 hrs of massage training
